Blood-Based Epigenetic Signatures Studied in Myeloma and Leukaemia

15 Jan 2026

Led by TASMC, Task 4.3 focuses on the analysis of DNA methylation patterns in matched bone marrow and whole blood samples from patients with multiple myeloma and acute myeloid leukaemia. Using the HemaChip platform, the task aims to assess whether blood-based epigenetic profiles can accurately reflect disease-specific signatures traditionally observed in bone marrow samples.

To date, 15 patients with multiple myeloma and 10 patients with acute myeloid leukaemia have been recruited through standard clinical care pathways. By directly comparing methylation profiles across sample types, the study seeks to evaluate the reliability and clinical relevance of minimally invasive blood-based testing.

The findings from Task 4.3 will contribute to the development of accessible diagnostic and disease monitoring tools, supporting the broader goal of reducing reliance on invasive procedures while maintaining diagnostic accuracy.
