Cluster Report on Addressing Inequalities in Access to Care

16 Mar 2026

As part of the Prevention & Early Detection (Screening) Cluster, SANGUINE has developed a report examining inequalities that can influence participation in early detection initiatives.

The report highlights the importance of considering health equity throughout the lifecycle of research projects. This includes recognising the different social and structural factors that may affect people’s ability to access information, participate in research, or benefit from healthcare services.

SANGUINE’s approach considers several dimensions of inequality. These include education level, income, urbanisation, age, employment status and disability. Understanding how these factors interact helps projects design activities that are more inclusive and accessible.

These considerations are being incorporated into the development of communication packages led by PredictBy. Recommendations emerging from desk research and stakeholder consultations are informing several practical measures. These include producing multilingual materials, using plain language, and tailoring content for different age groups. The project is also exploring diverse communication channels to reach different communities and working with stakeholders through co-creation and awareness initiatives.

Additional measures focus on reducing barriers to participation. These include offering remote consultation options, providing support for vulnerable groups, strengthening trust through patient navigators and psychological support, and ensuring clear communication of potential risks and benefits. Engagement and participation will also be monitored in order to refine strategies over time.

The communication packages are currently under development. Stakeholder feedback will play an important role in shaping the final materials.
