Societal Aspects of Early Detection in SANGUINE

2 Mar 2026

Early detection programmes are most effective when they reflect the needs, concerns and experiences of the people they are designed to serve.

As a Social Sciences and Humanities partner in the SANGUINE project, PredictBy works to ensure that societal perspectives are integrated across the research process.

Over the past year, the PredictBy team has conducted interviews and focus groups with a wide range of stakeholders. These included patients, patient organisations, healthcare professionals, epidemiologists, and behavioural and communication scientists. The discussions explored perceptions of early detection, potential barriers to participation, and the types of information people need to make informed choices.

The insights from this research were combined with an extensive desk review. Together, they have informed the development of draft communications to support participation in the SANGUINE test. These materials are designed to present information clearly and accessibly so that individuals can understand what participation may involve.

The next phase of the work will focus on validating these materials with relevant stakeholders. This process will help ensure that the content reflects diverse perspectives and remains accurate, inclusive and representative.
